🌿 Norpro 5517 Organic Cotton Brewing Accessories Review

I didn't know when I bought it that it was just small cotton bags and not the thin, transparent gauze that I expected from the description. There are loose threads protruding from the inside seam, and when I open the pouch to tease out the herbs I almost feel like tearing it. Other than that, they've survived about 10 uses with no issues. They serve their purpose and make a solid impression despite my complaints.

Excellent for cold brew coffee, only two are needed for a full pot of cold brew coffee, these are quite difficult to break down the first time cleans get terribly messy, but they're way cheaper than anything else made specifically for cold brewing! I've made several pots of coffee with them already and apart from a few loose strands here and there, they've been amazing!

I'm tired of using disposable tea bags as I drink tea almost every day. I also wanted non-plastic bags (so-called "silk bags") as they leach microplastics into your tea. So I went for something more traditional. You are excellent. Easy to use and clean. The bags started tearing at the seams so I had to throw them away after a few months. I don't know if it was because I kept pulling and turning the bag while cleaning it or if it was just a weak seam first. , I am very happy with it.

I wanted to leave a tea bag in a bottle of water to make cold tea. I mostly use rolled tea leaves. But overall it's not super strong, but it's solid enough. I don't like the sharp edge that makes me want to clean them and struggle with the threads coming out of the material. I was lazy and instead of making them the binding tape kept the raw edge from being unsightly and difficult to clean. I like the cord that I tie to the handle of my glasses instead of wrapping them around the bag. I wish they were a half inch too long for this and they are starting to wear out. Adding enough cotton rope to tie knots at the ends will solve this problem. Overall…

I use this to make kombucha tea. I put four teaspoons of loose leaf tea in the bag, which is the recommended amount per half gallon of water (in addition to 1/2 cup of white sugar). If you need more tea, you should use more bags. Four teaspoons completely fill a rehydration pack. By limiting the amount per bag, the tea can be better distributed. I love the netting and they were great for us to make kombucha. Many complain that they are difficult to clean. I didn't have that experience. We squeeze the bags with tongs to remove as much moisture as possible and then let the bags dry a bit while the tea is still in the bag. but loosened to help it dry.
