Received this as a gift to help a friend with some classes she is taking. After receiving it, I wanted to keep it. This is a great product but it's important to know that it's only for taking notes or recording conversations, not for recording music. It is not very easy to hear the recording when there is background noise or the dynamic range is high. However, I find it works very well as a note taker as there are few buttons, it is intuitive to use and you can hear yourself quite clearly with high quality. Bought a VN5000 a few years ago. I used it to record live radio broadcasts. It has a start/stop timer for recording shows. I liked it so much that I bought another VN5000 to record a second show at the same time. Then I saw the VN6000 which is very similar to the VN5000 except it can record twice as long as the VN5000 at any of the three speeds. All 3 recorders were bought used for less than $20!
