Only used twice so far, once to break the original chain and then removing extra links when replacing. I recommend applying lube to the threads before use. The included hook makes it easy to fit the master link or a new bolt.

Quite acceptable for this money. Wobbles slightly when screwing. Not very tight, a little loose. From what the packaging looked like, it turned out that I had received the returned one. It is suitable for my purpose, but definitely not of high quality.

Inexpensive tool that works. The chain is locked, but the pin will not necessarily align without special attention/small adjustments. Once aligned, this tool works like a charm. For most of us, this is a disposable tool, but it certainly makes the job easy and clean.

It did exactly what it was supposed to do and it was a good price. If you expect to have a lot of chains to measure, or you have kids that will be using it, or you're looking for something that needs to be off the beaten path, you probably need a sturdier one.

I only used this tool once and it worked. It was easy enough to figure out how to use through trial and error. It only took me 2 minutes to disassemble my first chain link and there was no damage to the chain. This is definitely NOT a durable professional tool. But the price was right for what it is and for what I needed.

I'm an avid cyclist. I'm not a pro but I enjoy editing and customizing my own bikes (2 mtn, 2 street). I finally got to the point where I had to remove the chain on one of them and ordered this breaker. I've never used it and it worked great for me. I saw some negative reviews but my experience was overwhelmingly positive. I may never need it again, but when I needed it, it worked.

Poorly designed junk. This is the age-old problem of trying to be "universal." It is equally useless for all applications. Doesn't secure the chain properly to prevent it from bending during the crimping process. This is particularly annoying when assembling. The chain must be securely fastened so everything is aligned and the pin can be pushed through the links. This thing makes this process almost impossible.

So, with the chain splitter I personally got, I found that the chain slots are designed to hold the chain in place when you take the pin out or put it back in, bend very easily and are difficult to move backwards. I only needed it for one or two uses at the time of purchase so I didn't really care, but for those who need it on a regular basis I highly recommend spending a little more for something taller with better steel. It might be worth it for 6 uses but is not meant for long term use.
