Type of review

I was afraid I might run into problems with this card due to the low price but I was pleasantly surprised that it works great. There is even a cable included. Many reviews state that a legacy driver is required, but mine worked with the driver from Win 10. If you buy it, try the native Windows 10 driver before switching to the legacy driver. The ease of installation and operation exceeded all my expectations. I highly recommend it.

Pros
  • Fits a lot of people
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Blue Screen on Windows 10

I see that this card has worked for other people on Windows 10, but after installing this card, my computer had a constant blue screen. Even after removing the card, it would no longer load. I had to boot into Safe Mode to force remove the device from Device Manager. For those who have this problem, open Device Manager and look for "Show hidden devices" in the menu to be able to uninstall it.

Not Working - FireWire Port Cards

This card is not recognized by the BIOS on two different computers. One computer is less than a year old, the other is 12 years old. So it was a complete failure. I contacted the seller who said to turn off the power when installing the board. Well Doo! Of course, turn off the power before installing the card in the PC. That was the last I heard from them, so support is down as well.

Pros
  • Wide Range
Cons
  • Annoying

DOESN'T WORK ON WINDOWS 10.

I'm giving 5 stars even though it didn't work for me. I thought that the Windows 10 problem was related to the controller and thought that replacing the card built into the mobo FireWire would solve the problem, but that's not the case. I gave it 5 stars because after looking at the list it was my fault because below it says it only supports up to Windows8. I dismissed reviews that suggested it worked with Windows 10, but it didn't. I tried all sorts of tricks I saw online but nothing worked…

If you're looking to connect an audio interface, look elsewhere.

Well, if you plan to connect your audio interface to Thks, this won't work. It just doesn't have enough power to work with the audio interface. For reference I have an Avid M Box Pro. What, as they say. If you want to use it to transfer video files from a camera or video capture device, it works fine. It takes time but it works. I tried it on Ryzen 7 build and on my Ryzen 3 build but it ended up in the Levono Thinkcenter as both of my Ryzen cases came with Firewire input. So if you're looking…

Works out of the box ubuntu linux 20.04 *updated*

Great postcard! Connected to the motherboard and turned on the machine. The card was recognized immediately! It was no problem to connect a camcorder and copy everything with dvgrab. The included cable works great too. *Update* Turns out things are far from rosy. The map resets every 20th frame on all bands, new and old. Now, no matter what I've tried, every 20th frame shows up as an "invalid firewire packet" in the logs and shows up in the video with blocky artifacts. I may be out of luck like

Very easy to install and works great for my application

I bought this card to connect a Nikon negative scanner to my PC running windows 10 home version 2004 sure to the point. I used the trusted Firewire cable that came with the scanner, so I can't comment on the short cable that comes with this card. Like some other reviewers lately, after restarting the PC I checked Device Manager and found that it recognized both the IEEE 1394 host controller and the Nikon scanner, so there was no need to install the legacy driver. Unsurprisingly, the scanner…

Pros
  • Worth the money
Cons
  • Everything is great

Works as expected and at a good price

I needed this connection so I could transfer some of my children's digital videos from my old MiniDV camera and cassettes to my computer. The card and the cable came together. I paid my daughter to download a free app and copy about 20 tapes to my hard drive. I probably saved a few hundred bucks and my daughter still loved watching the videos while they were downloading. win/win/win.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Some difficulties
