The price is so low that I decided to replace the laptop screen for the first time. I read somewhere that the plug can be either on the left or the right side on this particular model. Consequently, I removed the broken screen first to make sure I was buying the right one. When the package arrived, the packaging looked homemade, but it was enough to protect the screen during transit. The screen worked after installation and still works.

My laptop's screen started to fade and pixelate after about a year of use. Eventually it took too many hits and it didn't show anything (except confetti). The replacement took longer than it should, just because the HP service manual says to access the LCD panel, which you don't have. Just open the screw covers and go around the inside of the glued on bezel. Anyway, it was only an hour. For less than $70, you can't beat the picture or the price.

This screen is almost identical to the original. If you've never installed an LCD display in a laptop, just take your time. Usually you have to remove the entire top of the laptop, including the keyboard. The hardest part is removing the frame around the screen. On the DV7-4165DX there are only 2 screws holding the front panel near the hinges so you have to pull back a small plastic tab to gain access.
