Easy replacement, Linux compatible

I recently replaced my laptop's internal optical drive with another hard drive, but wanted it to be available in case I needed to read or write a CD/DVD. This case was easy to install. The instructions are simple (although you don't need them). It worked for me without an additional power cord. The case looks solid and I was happy to know that it is also compatible with Linux (openSuse Leap). I wish the USB cable had standard USB-A connectors on both ends, but I've found that many manufacturers

Pros
  • Good construction
Cons
  • is embarrassing

For Blu-Ray, use the power cord.

I tried to insert a BD-RE. The device continues to receive connections/disconnections. I inserted the HP DVD and it linked fine. Plug in BD-RE and power cable (two cables to USB ports). The hard drive was recognized and stayed in place. Blu-ray requires both cables.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Quality

Doesn't work with optical drives

Bought a slim laptop drive off eBay and put it in this case. My laptop keeps seeing the drive and then doesn't. Tried different power options and tried on another laptop with same results. Stay away, buy a Vantec case that actually works.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other options

So far, so good. in External Components

Quick here. Nicely packaged and worked right out of the box with my old Blu-ray/DVD reader/writer laptops. The quality seems very good but then again I only had them one day. I expect it to last as long as my other external hard drive enclosures I've had for years. Its attractive appearance is that it can sit on the outside of my HTPC and not look completely out of place.

Robust, tool-less assembly, driver-less, quiet, fast

I completely redact all my previous statements. The thing is absolute garbage. It's nice when it works but now with 3 of these I will never buy again. The internal SATA connector is incredibly prone to flexing when you plug in a drive, so you're likely to damage it the first time you plug in a drive and every time thereafter. The USB3 port becomes weak after a few uses and loses connectivity. Now that I have that $90 in the trash, I'll find something reliable. The case itself is good, butโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled

Perfect! Exceptional Quality and Fit

Excellent! Quality and fit are exceptional. I removed my Blu-ray DVD from my old HP dv7-4083cl and it works great externally and works on my old existing USB2.0 ports. Also, it works well with my 500GB drive in a 12.7mm SATA optical bay hard drive adapter. The option of an additional power cable is nice in case you encounter a system with insufficient USB power delivery. 5 stars are not enough!

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Sad Hardware
