This works well, but the small lid is difficult to open as it's quite stiff and needs to be pulled vigorously, meaning the creature inside (a spider in my case) shakes every time I try to feed them . Although the price is ok.

I thought it would be like the large pet holder they sell at pet stores. It's smaller and has these weird indentations on the short sides between the corners. I bought it to hold the crickets, the notches make it difficult to insert the scoop to get the crickets. Also, the door at the top is smaller than the Critter Keeper, so it's harder to get out. I bought it to hold fragile ornaments and figurines. For this purpose it works very well. The biggest shortcoming is the serving lid - opening it is cumbersome and difficult due to the handle (picture). If they changed it, it would be almost perfect. I believe this would make a good small animal enclosure as it is strong, durable and reasonably safe. Sliding the feed lid up from the inside MAY be possible if your pet is very determined.
