I am a Licensed Beautician with 8 years experience. I've been using this hair dryer for years and it works great on thick or coarse hair. I won't lie that it's cheap and I usually have it for about 2 years before I need another one, but there's no other dryer that can compete with it. giggle

This takes me back to the old days when I had a Blackbird hair dryer. They lasted forever. Then I didn't find them and switched to bluebird and they became rare. I'm so glad I found another blackbird. Lots of great settings and lots of airpower! I love this product.

I have very arthritic hands so the side switches are perfect for me. It seems a little harder to hit than Yellow Bird, but Yellow Bird is a happier color. I like the extra filter inlet grille on the side of the Black Bird. I use a comb to break up my naturally curly hair. I also use my hair dryer to defrost my freezer. Works perfectly! Next time I'll probably go with the yellow bird. I like it better.

After my old hair dryer died I decided to buy this one because my mum has it. I only had it for two or three months before it started making a rattling noise when in use. I would smack it and the rattling would subside. However, some time after this happened, I dried my hair and it started smelling like smoke. The blackbird and its yellow counterpart appear to be the last of the sadly endangered breed of hair dryer - what I call, for lack of a better description, the 'squirrel cage' dryer Barrel fan dryers as opposed to the propeller type fans used in almost all other dryers today not only move the air more efficiently but also produce a lower frequency and therefore are much less annoying noise in operation and last longer, at least in my experience.
