Washed the cover when I received it. Soft and odorless. The old man loves it. Feels slightly warm, not hot at all. He just rolls back and forth and warms up. We have the medium size - it's 15 pounds.

My kittens have been using these mats non stop since I got them. The reason I deducted a star was the awful smell they give off. I bought two of these and both have a strong chemical odor that actually transfers to cat fur. I had to take them outside and air them out for a good two days before they stopped being offensive to me.
