📻 Compact Philips AE1500 Portable Pocket Radio - Optimal for Easy Searching Review

I like this little radio very much. It is small and ideal for trolley and bus. I think it's old school, but it suits my needs perfectly. I listen to my favorite stations (Amor 102.9) on my 75-minute drive to work. I don't want to wear out my phone by listening to music while crammed into a small sitting/standing room/going out etc. My last recent radio was 9 months, headphones (another source) wore out first.

I purchased this unit for use in one of the few remaining drive-in theaters in Wisconsin. I connect it to a larger speaker that I connect to my phone via bluetooth. The radio works great and helps save money as I don't use my data plan on my phone to access the radio station via the app. This radio's speaker is quite efficient for use in a very small room, but it works. it will be better if you connect it to a larger speaker through the audio jack.

As several reviewers have pointed out, the volume drops drastically as you move the radio. You have to find the perfect place for him and leave him there! Unfortunately, this pretty much precludes its use as a portable device. No other radio I have does that. I replaced it with Revain and the replacement was exactly the same. Also, my Sony and Sangean in New York pick up a lot more AM stations than Philips. Shame for the above issues as I love the looks and subtle styling of the Philips.

What a great little pocket radio. Likes: 1) Clean and simple design. Nothing fancy, AM/FM select button on the right side, volume/on/off knob and settings. The headphones are top center and in the perfect spot with the stereo (!). The antenna goes straight up and down without rotating. 2) Even with two AA batteries, the device is still light. 3) AM/FM works fine, no bass, but with a 1" speaker () I don't expect high fidelity.
