Great ring flash at a great price.

The result is as good as the Canon RF, which costs a lot more. The construction is very flimsy, but it gets the job done if you're careful not to hit it. Excellent value for money and quality.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • Minor issues

Phoenix 46C ring flash

Terrible product. waste of money. Use it with Canon XSI. eTTL never worked. It puts out the same amount of flash for each setting. Head tilt has nothing to do with it at all. I wish I had bought a different brand.

Pros
  • nice little thing
Cons
  • Available in white only

Pretty good, best in Camera & Photo category

Construction is a bit cheap but works very well. Unpacked, put batteries in and turned off to find some bugs to photograph. Very good, easy to use, very predictable results. Overall a good experience with this product.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Security

Buy something else - blinking

I've owned it for about 2.5 years and used it maybe 20 times in ETTL mode with my Canon 40D and 100mm macro lens. That ring flash has never been really good. Misfires in 20-25% of cases. Even when I set the flash exposure compensation to +2, there was only enough light for a 1:1 zoom at f/11 to get the histogram halfway. Now, despite having been treated with only the gentlest care his whole life, he suddenly decided not to work at all. Fees but otherwise dead as a nail. I would not buy this…

Pros
  • Test for one year
Cons
  • No power

Amazing flash for the price. Batteries eat up like crazy, but it's probably my fault that good batteries don't exist. I just used my Cannon XTi and the standard lens that came with it (18-55) for my dental photography. I've posted a link to some of my photos I took of him below. Flash color is great. It's so bright I can use it at ISO 100, f32 and a shutter speed of 200 to get my entire mouth in focus to the back of my throat! That's a lot better than buying a $400 Cannon flash and $800 Cannon…

More than the price

It seems that this can only be a toy, for the price of course, but in reality it is a decently working flash. First off, TTL works like a champ. While it doesn't always give the correct exposure, similar issues can arise with Canon's own 580EXII camera. It then comes with a full set of adapters. 52, 58, 62, 67, these four can satisfy most Canon macro lenses, but maybe the rare 180L player. Conversely, if you're spending $5000 on a Canon ring flash and you want it to be a 100L macro, you'll have

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions

  • Hard to say

More than a toy. Best in Camera & Photo Category

Full Disclosure: I borrowed one of these for about two months before buying my own. I liked it so much I just had to have it. First point: unlike many other items in the $40-$100 range, this is NOT a ring light or adapter. This is real lightning. So it might be a bit harder to use. Other than that, I think Phoenix did a masterful job with this product. They really outperformed the cheaper models and delivered a solid performance. If you look, you'll see that there's almost nothing in the…
