Phenomenal value - Sledgehammers

I rarely write reviews and since this isn't Chinese crap it deserves a review. Phenomenal value for a GOOD hammer. I've been in the forge for about eight years now and having worked with many hammers on my blanks this is exactly what you need to start or expand your hammer line. What is wrong is an exceptionally well made and expensive rounding hammer. Absolutely unbeatable for the price. The Swedish example has a really good design, the nail quickly moves the metal where you need it with…

an absolutely eye-catching deal for a monster hammer.

I'm not a blacksmith but I wanted a good heavy hammer for breaking scrap and this thing is great. The brick and everything related to it has not come loose or broken off, the head has an ideal hardness so as not to scratch or dent, but also not to chip off a piece. The only criticism is that the handle is painted. Which is TERRIBLE. I hate that it's so common, it's just a useless extra expense for the manufacturer and a hassle for me to remove. It's no big deal, a random orbital sander, razor…

Pros
  • Hardened Edge and Cross
Cons
  • Some bugs

Good hammer but needs TLC

I was about to buy a Peddinghaus hammer when I came across Picard at a great price. Nice hammer, but as several reviewers pointed out, the edges need some work. The working areas are ground with a very rough stone, leaving small but noticeable grooves on each side and on the bevels. Without a belt sander, I spent some time cleaning the surfaces and bevels with 80, 120, 240 and finally 2000 grit sandpaper. It took a while and needs more, but it's coming together and I'm enjoying the process…

Pros
  • Quality German manufacture
Cons
  • Communication with seller

I was hoping this hammer was an anomaly

I bought this hammer after hearing Cody talk about it on Wranglerstar. It's possible I got the piece in a hurry, but I'll check what I got. The hammer's face is angled, not rounded, but ground in such a way that the blow either hits your forging unevenly or the hammer rolls on the contour of the face rather than the hammer head in your hand. The chamfers ground on the face of the hammer were not ground at right angles to the hammer head and were bent a few degrees like a corkscrew. The hammer…
