I was hoping this hammer was an anomaly

I bought this hammer after hearing Cody talk about it on Wranglerstar. It's possible I got the piece in a hurry, but I'll check what I got. The hammer's face is angled, not rounded, but ground in such a way that the blow either hits your forging unevenly or the hammer rolls on the contour of the face rather than the hammer head in your hand. The chamfers ground on the face of the hammer were not ground at right angles to the hammer head and were bent a few degrees like a corkscrew. The hammer head itself was flat on one side and thicker and more convex on the other. The handle of the hammer is not hanging out yet, does not fit snugly against the head, the distance between the handle and the head can be seen from below. I spent a little over an hour getting the face square and even, then rounding out the bevels and getting the right contour on a belt sander, and then polishing. Finishing the new face of the hammers is no surprise, but compared to my Peddinghaus hammers, this one was a chore and I haven't done anything to fix the handle or the convex side yet. As I said, I may have gotten the part in a hurry and it's fine for my use now, but I didn't expect any problems with its function.

  • hammers
Cons
