I have hundreds and hundreds of black and white family photos from the 1900's and earlier, as well as color photos from the last 40 years. They were either laid out in the trunk or packed in Ziploc bags. The Pioneer box is great for storing 4x6 and smaller photos front to back - much like a recipe box or old card catalogue. These are good boxes but they are very expensive. They are covered with colored paper. Do not open the plastic packaging until you have checked it for stains. Unfortunately I didn't notice or noticed that there was a piece of wrapping paper missing on the front next to the label holder. This is a light white spot.
