The tip can be easily replaced if necessary and lights up reliably.

I do a lot of electric soldering and have found butane irons to be a lot more convenient than plug irons, especially if you work where electricity isn't available. This is incredibly handy for electrical work in cars where you probably don't want to lug an extension cord under the hood. I also use it to wire RC cars when I'm at the track or in the field. The iron heats up very quickly; probably 30 seconds or less to start melting 70/30 solder. The tip can be easily replaced if necessary and…

    Great when it starts.

I had one like this that worked the first time but couldn't start it the second time. He also had a problem with the gas valve and would release gas even with the switch off. I returned it for a new one but it seems to have the same lighting issue right away. I keep it. I have a workaround: unscrew the tip, light it with the built in clicker, then screw the tip back in, which seems to power it. It's a hassle, but it works pretty well when it works. The gas doesn't seem to come out between uses.

The only thing I didn't like about the previous model was the look.

Bought to replace my old portasol butane soldering iron which has served me well for several years. The only thing I didn't like about the previous model was that it was awkward to light as it had a flint igniter. I have used it exclusively on heat shrink tubing for my electronic projects. You had to either leave it on between heatshrink installations or turn it off and do the friction wheel procedure again. I have bought this newer model and a PPT-13 hot blow nozzle and every time it fires the
