PowerTRC Magic Drinking Bird Red Review

I bought this for my 78 year old mother's birthday. All she can do is sit in her chair so I thought it would be something for her to watch but unfortunately half the time it doesn't work properly.

My kids, like all the kids that come to our house, enjoy watching Dippy Bird drink water. So many conversations in our living room are interrupted by an excited "He's drinking his water!" statements from children. We hold a small cupful of water and he goes and goes and goes.

Waste of money. I was hoping to use it to make it click my mouse at work to make it appear like I was at work, but it didn't work like it did in the movies. The liquid evaporated when I received it, so it only tipped a little, not even halfway, about 1 time and stopped completely. Super screwed up.

The bird hardly drinks from the water. We tried different glasses with different heights. My 12 year old nephew loves his phone and screens but this old school toy got the most attention on Christmas morning so I'm super happy! I'm glad to know that old school toys can beat screens!

My boyfriend and I had these toys when we were kids and WE LOVED THEM! So when he mentioned he wanted it, where else would you look for something like this if not here on Revane? He is happy. It even looks like the ones we had in 1970! I'm guessing he's some kind of barometer and also a neatly dressed thirst bird, but I don't know how to read what he's telling me, so whatever.

The bird started drinking as soon as we put the water cup on. The bird is easy to assemble and at least we didn't have to adjust it. The bird has been drinking heavily for a few days now, to the delight of my husband who has never had a drinking bird and has had a rough week. Dispatched quickly and arrived in good condition. I got this because growing up as a kid with my parents on vacation in Florida we all got glass on a stand with bowl for Alton water. I've always liked it. The modern version does basically the same thing, but while there's a small adjustment and moving it up or down on the mount, it's difficult to get it moving and keep it moving. Otherwise, it brings back lots of fun memories.

I thought it would be like my grandmother's magic drinking bird. It wasn't like that at all. Very cheaply made. The head is covered with a cloth which, according to the instructions, must be wet for the bird to work. The fabric will get moldy over time and I'm sure the glue holding the fabric together will break down. I couldn't get this bird to work properly in a lifetime. I tried several cups of different sizes. The bird's legs compared to its body length are wrong. waste of money.

I've wanted one for a long time and was happy to find it in my gifts on Christmas morning. It's really easy to assemble but a bit tricky to calibrate. This is not a "feature" of this particular model, but a symptomatology of the toy in general. But once you get it right, start racing! One thing that surprised me was that the toy rotated counter-clockwise very slowly. precession? coriolis force? I don't know, but I do know that a few Blu-Tac tracks (like Sticky Tack) have been fixed.
