A largely backward compatible remote control is supplied which works well with our Yamaha RX373 receiver. It supports one audio channel instead of two, but allowed us to replace an old remote control whose volume controls were no longer working properly. All HDMI controls work properly. Yamaha's equivalent replacement remote control model did not claim to be compatible with the RX373.

Volume rocker is fully functional. Getting up to adjust the volume was too much work! It worked exactly as expected, right out of the box. I put batteries in, pointed it at the receiver and everything worked fine. No complaints. It even looks (almost) the same as the factory one.
