I received a black tape that has a very light gray color on the adhesive side. I had a hard time peeling all the tape off the roll because the medium strength adhesive seems to be stronger than the very thin and flimsy paper tape itself so it keeps breaking into small pieces. Corrugated backings tend to be brittle. This works best if you fold the end over to create a pull tab for easier removal. Works fairly well. I bought it to frame my watercolor paintings. I taped the spacers to keep the paper from bending. I found the tape came off fairly easily, though not always in a streak (so I deducted a star). It hasn't damaged any of my papers so far (but I've only tried it on 100% cotton, not pulp blends, so I'm not sure how it will affect them. Clean lines. I'm not the best artist, but this fits I love the color and would order it again.

The roll is very similar to traditional fabric ribbon and I thought it was what I previously bought but the black ribbon I received is very difficult to tear off. The roll without tearing does not have the cloth texture of other professional tapes and feels like a very thin masking tape. It wouldn't be easy to remove and reuse. It is sticky like other tapes. If you are looking for a very cheap black masking tape for light duty applications this will suffice but not for professional production.
