Good value for money. Measures within 0.2% in my test. Easy to use.

This is a reasonably priced gauge, but it's actually a little more durable than I expected for the price, and pretty accurate to me. To check the calibration, I measured out 50mL of water and 5.00 grams of sugar to make a 5/55 or 9.1% by weight solution. The meter reads 9.2% for this solution (after adjusting the zero offset +0.2% for pure water). I'm satisfied as the exact grades on the scale differ by 0.2% so can't expect more. There is an offset adjustment screw, but to be careful, always…

Pros
  • Easy to use and big savings: 2-3 drops of solution are enough to get accurate readings.
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

I recently started brewing beer at home and decided to buy a refractometer to measure the total sugar content of the wort. To find out how much I can trust this instrument, I prepared several sugar solutions with known Brix values and measured them with a refractometer. The instrument turned out to be much more accurate than I expected, provided its calibration was carefully checked before each measurement. The instrument is recalibrated with the supplied screwdriver and a few drops of tap…

Pros
  • It is used to measure the enzyme Brix for brandy, beer, sugar solutions, fruit juices or milk drinks.
Cons
  • write later

Can someone help me with my math?

I purchased this item to measure the amount of sugar in my homemade kombucha. The problem I have is that I keep getting different readings of how much 1 Brix = sugar per 16 oz. For basic calculations I used the following formula: 1 Brix = 1g of sucrose per 100g/solution 100g/solution 3.53 ounces liquid 16 ounces / 3.53 ounces 1 Brix = 4.533 grams of sugar per 16 ounces. Brix at 4.533 to calculate how many grams are in a 16 ounce serving. But then I took readings from two store-bought liquids…

Pros
  • Brix range 0-32%, reading resolution 0.2%. Brix Accuracy: +/-0.2%
Cons
  • No Instructions
