We had frozen meat packs that needed to be labeled for sale. We have tried freezer tape, other labels, written directly on the packaging. These shortcuts worked great. Easy to use. Easy to write. Holds up remarkably well.

I label storage containers and food in the fridge with an expiration date and/or open date (because I'm tired of guessing how old a ranch gas station is!). One thing I've noticed is that it's best to write with a regular sized marker rather than a fine marker/pen or the writing will smear even after a few days. The labels peel off all my various containers very easily, no matter how long they've been or if they've been stored in a freezer/chiller/pantry area.

I have a wooden "tower of boxes" in my studio, 13 to be exact (plus a closet) where I keep a whole menagerie of art supplies - and frankly, there's too much Crap in there that's not a required label and still works. We bought these for use on wet surfaces. But they are not waterproof. See photos. They will start bleeding immediately if liquid gets on them. They've smeared ink all over our house and on our hands. I used another label that could be stuck onto a frozen container and stayed frozen, thawed and dishwasher safe. When the time came, they just peeled off, leaving no trace. They were pretty expensive so I decided to try the cheaper option but these labels are just useless.
