Charges well, but it's better to charge the battery, not the phone

Ideal for solar charging when hiking. I found this useless when connected directly to my phone as for some reason the phone would stop charging every few minutes. When it does, the screen will also turn on and drain the phone's battery more. When I connect it to the battery, it charges stably and then I can use the battery to charge my phone or whatever I need to charge. One star deducted because the phone thinks it's not charging anymore. I have a battery (about the size of a pack of…

Actual Weight = 13.7 ounces without carabiners and suction cups

Review #1: Just received the Renogy 10W Charger (equivalent to two 5W panels connected) USB Solar Charger. Put it on an accurate scale and make sure it's not the advertised 11oz, but the confirmed 13.7, and that's without any attachments. Most don't care, and I don't care, except for light hiking. Ounces tend to matter a bit. The device appears to be durable, although you should be aware that the USB port isn't protected from rain, dust, etc. when exposed to the elements that will surface…

I was skeptical at first, but let's face it.

I was skeptical at first, but on a clear November morning in Northern California, it charged my Galaxy S4 Mini from 38% to 100% in two hours! I put some foil on the floor in front of the unit to capture the reflection. I weighed this device in for you backpackers at 6 ounces. It's worth it. Other 20+ watt panels weigh 16+ ounces. Update: I later bought a "10 watt" version of this, which is essentially two panels connected together. not twice the load, but twice the weight. I have confirmed that

Mysteriously stopped working after 2 weeks

I am currently traveling long distance trails in the Middle East deserts so I use it every day. For the record, I've been using solar chargers for hiking for 10 years and recently bought this one because my favorite was wearing out from all the scratches. Here's the riddle: the panel worked flawlessly during pre-ride testing, and then for two weeks in the Jordan desert I was very happy with my battery and everything I had with it. And the last 2 weeks everything is exactly the opposite: it no…

Supports 1 cellphone at latitude 38

To test this solar panel I used a 5w panel to charge an external battery which I use to charge my cellphone. The solar battery is in the south. When I look at the window all day I charge the battery and in the evening I charge the phone from the battery. It's been cloudy and raining for 5 days now and the battery is very low, but I get enough sun each day to fully charge my phone. I use my phone as usual to read the news, check email, listen to music etc (I know normal is different for…

works, but slow charging

The solar panel (10 W) really works. Some important points to keep in mind: This is a very slow charge. As mentioned in many other reviews; It works to charge the battery, doesn't charge the phone very well. The charge is not constant enough, and when it is connected to the phone, the charging cycle goes on and off, draining the battery more than charging it. Works well when the phone is off while charging. He needs full sun. It doesn't work on a cloudy day. You can get some charge when it's…

Absolutely great price

Really happy with the performance and size of this panel. It's half the size of my old solar charger but manages to push more amps. It's MUCH smaller than I expected, which is great. While testing it I was able to get 0.8 amps from the advertised peak of 1 amp. 1 amp would be possible, but I think the conditions should be ideal. For those who want to know how well it charges your phone, 0.8 amps means it will give you 800mAh of power every hour of charging. For example, if you look at your…

  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Poor set

I have taken this charger on 3 trips and 2 backpacking trips. I usually use this solar charger. On my phone, the screen lights up every time the charger is plugged in or unplugged, which happens when I'm moving from sun to shade or back while walking on a path. This drains my phone even faster than if I just left the screen off. With a battery pack, that's not a problem. When I arrive at camp I usually plug my phone straight into the panel, assuming the sun is still shining and there are no…

This 5w panel impressed me more than other larger panels

Update 04/22/20: I had a few more "perfect" bright sunny days to evaluate and am still impressed with the stability settings. described below. I compared it to a larger 21W folding panel from another manufacturer. On brighter days, the 21-watt panel produces more power than these two 5-watt panels, but when the cloud rolls by and causes the panels to reset, the two 5-watt panels remain powerful enough to keep my device active to load. I think they're either more sensitive to low light and don't
