Works Well. for multiple Uses

I got tired of the always break Home Depot/Lowes models made in China. This is made by Reotemp a high end industrial supplier based out of California. They sell more robust version of this product which I think are made in the USA. This one was made in communist china. I took it apart and while the quality of the components was pretty good, the mfg was not and the calibration screw was not mounted properly but I could still access it and use it. These device use galvanic current action which…

Pros
  • I don't have a dislike at all,it's used for measuring the amount of water in soil
Cons
  • The meter may be too large and bulky for some gardeners to handle comfortably

Must be careful for my opinion

This is my third Reotemp. The first one failed because I didn't get the rubber plug in properly and the inside got wet. The second one still works but the housing separated from the metal frame, so I'm reluctant to use it. The third one is OK so far. Obviously, I like this instrument. I use it to get down farther into my tree roots to see what's going on. Also, the proble is very sturdy.

Pros
  • Length of probe excellent. Very well built and easy to read.
Cons
  • The price point may be too high for some consumers

I can check my plants moisture while standing!

I love the long stem. I am able to check the moisture without bending or stooping over - what a relief for my back and knees! I would give this item 5 stars if it came alread calibrated and if assess to the battery was easier. I have not had to change the battery yet but it looks like a potential challenge when that time comes. If there is difficulty changing the battery, I might have to revise and lower my review rating in the future but for now, I am loving the ability to check my plants…

Pros
  • Rugged Metal Construction with T-handle
Cons
  • The instructions provided may be confusing or difficult to follow

Moister Meter for my opinion

Great Meter. At first this Meter DID NOT Work at all.I was ready to send it back for a replacement. On the Box I saw that it was 1 "AAA" battery. I opened the meter to check the battery. The battery was NOT in its place, I pushed it in and then everything worked. Very accurate and well made meter.

Pros
  • Provides accurate and reliable measurements, ensuring healthy plant growth
Cons
  • The meter may not work well on certain types of soil, such as clay or sandy soils

Sturdy and seems accurate.

Bought this after going through thee cheap meters, each of which worked fine but were too delicate to last. This one is way sturdier, and I expect it to last a long time.

Pros
  • 27.25 x 7.25 x 2.25 inches
Cons
  • The gauge may be difficult to read in low light conditions

This Thing Flat Out Works!

I bought seven several year old cherry trees in 5 gal containers and immediately transplanted them into 35 gal containers. With summer coming on I was concerned I might not water them enough and that in reaction I might overwater them. I set up an automatic watering system where the main variables were when, for how long and how many times per day to water them. The moisture meter worked right out of the box and I quickly discovered the soil was extremely saturated near the container sides and…

Pros
  • Saves time and money by eliminating the need for guesswork when watering plants
Cons
  • The product may require additional accessories or attachments to function properly, adding to the overall cost

This long probe relative moisture meter was exactly what I needed to determine if I was over or under watering recently planted trees. Visual inspection of some trees doesn't always help to determine which situation is causing their stress. Using this meter it is easy to tell which are dry and which have too much water. Using the meter is as simple as pushing it into the ground. Having a probe long enough to reach the bottom of the root ball is key for my task and I can determine if any part of

Pros
  • Simple and intuitive design allows for easy use by gardeners of all skill levels
Cons
  • The device may require frequent battery replacements, adding to the ongoing cost of use

Easy to read for my opinion

A lot better meter than the one the landscaper gave me after installing my new trees and shrubs. That was a ten dollar small cheap one with the meter on the side. That one was more for house plants not outdoor landscaping. This one is much stronger and easier to see the meter. A little pricey but worth it considering the cost of the landscaping.

Pros
  • Makes it easy to determine the moisture levels of plant roots, ensuring they receive the right amount of water
Cons
  • The gauge may be prone to rust if not properly maintained

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Difficult to determine if the meter is calibrated accurately.

This moisture meter requires initial calibration. To do that they want you first to calibrate to the desired moisture level of the soil. You are to put the rod into the soil at the desired moisture level and then turn a calibration screw so the needle moves to the middle of the dial (too dry, correct moisture, too moist). If you already know the moisture level you want, then calibration will be simple. If you don't know what the correct moisture level should be, then the meter won't help you…

Pros
  • Portable nature makes it easy to carry and use on the go
Cons
  • The gauge may be difficult to read for users with visual impairments

I use it for newly planted trees

We had some expensive trees planted in the front yard. The rain was heavy but sporadic and I wanted to water them correctly. This meter reaches down into the root ball for useful readings. It saved me from killing the trees by over watering. It is all metal, but still a little fragile. Don't twist it while it is stuck in the ground, that might tear out some wires inside the unit. Installing the battery requires a screwdriver to undo the screws. Calibration is not complex. I don't know how to…

Pros
  • Measuring & Layout Tools
Cons
  • The gauge may be flimsy and break easily if dropped or mishandled

Not Reliable in Compacted Sandy Soil

I re-landscaped my yard 9 months ago with a drip system and I bought the Reotemp 17" meter because it seems logical that you'd need a long probe to know what's going on. It semed to work very well and I b

Pros
  • Provides a quick and simple way to assess the overall health of soil
Cons
  • The device may be less effective in testing moisture levels in plants that have been recently watered
