There's sand in my 4' x 8' chicken coop. I use this to get dirt out of sand. Facilitates the cleaning of chickens. I attached it to the broom handle for easier scooping and sifting while standing. The nice big size allows me to clean up faster. Works well in a small box or reptile terrarium. The screening is similar to the screening of windows. Good buy for the price.

This is a very strong and durable sand shovel. It's smaller than I imagined (see photos) but is very well made and will last over time. It sifts very fine sand, and it's not good for sifting my turtle's mixed sand (he took out all the slightly larger bits of sand). Nicely shaped and durable. I use mine to get rid of any little clumps in the cat box. It is inevitable that when cleaning the box, some small particles will remain. They add up and soon cause a litter change sooner than necessary. With this shovel, I can take care of the box quickly and the litter stays fresh longer. The cat appreciates that, but I appreciate the unsanitary things the cat steps on before getting on my bed.

I use natural wood based cat litter and after a while it starts to collect fine dust so I bought this mesh dustpan which helps keep the litter box fresh and clean longer instead of the litter that usually goes in the dustpan falls, I strain it through a bin or bag to get rid of the dust, leaving only the fresh garbage in the dustpan to put back in the bin. I've also used these types of clay litter scoops, but they're the opposite: scoop up a litter box to save on unused litter, and you're left…

I hesitated to write this review because in order to write a review you must rate it. I returned this product because it was not suitable for my needs but I did not use it for the advertised purpose. I wanted to write a review in case someone else wants to use this for the same reason I do, but I've based my review on the quality of the product and its intended use, not my own. I've seen other reviews mentioning that this works for litter, but I found it didn't (at least not for the litter box…
