Nice sand - gravel

Don't forget to prewash. This sand is perfect at the bottom of my planted tank. The colors of the fish and plants really stand out against the black sand.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Some imperfections

DO NOT BUY. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT.

Not shiny under water. I also had to pay $2 to get it back. Damn stupid. It literally looks like small sharp black rocks. Nothing special. 20€ is definitely not worth it.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

False Advertising: Fish and Aquatic Animals

I bought 6 bags for my 55 gallon tank. Nothing in this product is as advertised. It doesn't shine, it rusts, it raised my pH from 7.2 to 8.4, it's attracted by magnets, and has little plastic balls/sticks mixed in. Of the 60 pound "quarts" only a handful were genuine. Completely disappointed in this product and this company. Will emphatically avoid any product this company makes.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.

Killed everything in my tank

I've had a 10 gallon tank for a little over 2 years with Bettas, 3 generations of cherry shrimp, a group of Amano shrimp and two mystery snails. never had a problem with anything. got this stuff (followed all directions exactly) and within 2 days the snails were dead... within 2 weeks all 15+ shrimp were dead... and the last one to leave was my poor rooster. I should have known beforehand that it was a substrate. I blame myself, but I'm letting you all know so you don't make the same mistake I…

Do not buy! in aquarium substrate

I have struggled with high pH and high alkalinity. My nitrates are through the roof too! I don't have any fish yet! Petco advised me to remove all of the water and replace it with natural spring water. I tested the spring water before adding it to my aquarium and the readings were perfect. After 24 hours I tested the water and my readings rose again. I did some research to see if other customers are experiencing the same thing as me because of the AquaNatural Diamond Black gravel in my tank. I…

Adding it to my aquarium killed my snails

I couldn't believe I managed to lose 4 mystery snails and quite a few mutton snails. At first I thought the reason for the lethargy between them was that my rooster pinched them slightly, but they lived with another rooster and didn't squeeze at all. After adding this, they began to swim or close in their shells. A mysterious snail tried to detach itself from its shell. To say the least I'm very sad about this as I lost 4 amazing mysterious snails and quite a few rams (which serve as feed for…

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Some bugs

Disappointed: Fish and Aquatic Animals

A bit disappointed with this one. It seemed like a great substrate, and it is. But I noticed that some of the "quartz" looks like it's rusting. Thankfully not by much, but enough to make you notice. There are also many black plastic sticks on the back. I thought the first one was just something that was always hidden with the plants or when I was cleaning. Then I found more when I looked around the tank from the outside. It probably won't cause any problems, but it's definitely not "natural"…

Pros
  • This is Amazing
Cons
  • Expensive

Don't think it's black quartz and it will rust.

Bought two bags and put them in my 15 gallon Fluval. I have been collecting gems/minerals for decades. It's advertised as quartz and they claim it "glitters". No, not champagne. Don't think it's black quartz. It looked weird so I ran a magnet through it. It showed a very high magnetic attraction! I think it's either magnetite or black diamond abrasive which is carbon slag. Now I have some rust in places (note the orange colored parts in the photo, this is rust). He also lowered my Ph from 8.2…
