Works great on Flex-Hones

I used this to crack the icing on a 68mm bore of a cast steel motorcycle engine cylinder. It worked very well - 10-30 SAE oil, 1500 rpm for a few minutes left very smooth honing lines. BUT 1: You REALLY need to take the time to get the grain out of the barrel after sharpening. and 2) I think you may need to run the devices longer than I did as the results were still evident after running in Bke.

Pros
  • Flex-Hones
Cons
  • Available in white only

Bought to sharpen Buick 3.8 cylinders after trying out their old 3 arm stone grinders. I have no idea why I ever thought this contraption would ever work. That's a beast. It takes seconds to use properly and I didn't give any extra thought to getting the crank back and plugging in the pistons. If during your mid-life crisis you're ever planning on having to overhaul your engine, save yourself some time, grab this one and the next, and use them to perfect your SBC or whatever.

All holes were factory perfect except #4 which I would give an 8.

I have a 2005 Honda CRV that burned a quart of oil per tank of gas. Yes, you read it right. The car was scolded before I got it but now I have to fix it. I disassembled the engine and found scrapes on the #4 cylinder wall and a damaged piston. All 4 pistons, rings and connecting rod bearings renewed. I took this honing on all cylinder walls with a little extra in #4. All holes came out perfect except #4 which I would give 8 out of 10 from the factory. You could still see some vertical lines…
