Good scale for the money

Good inexpensive laboratory balance. The only downside is the need to have batteries to run on household electricity; and a very short "on" time before shutting down due to inactivity. Assuming this is to extend battery life. But if it's connected to AC power, why would it shut down prematurely? I like the scale's large work surface
