It's a waste of money. Just look at your camera's LCD screen. This is the least useful viewfinder I've ever used. It's distorting like crazy and could also be a paper ring taped to the top of your GR.

Awesome addition to a cool camera. It feels solid, looks cool and makes you want to go back to taking photos instead of staring at the screen all the time. money well spent. Keep in mind that this is just a framing device that gives absolutely no information about the camera as it just sits on top of the camera and doesn't interact with any data.

The GV-1 is a great external optical viewfinder for the Ricoh GR, albeit a throwback to the past century. The optics are clear and large. Frame lines - there are two of them: 21mm and 28mm - are clearly visible in any light. The optical block is offset slightly to the right of the hot shoe for better accuracy from the lens perspective. The only caveat I would like to make is that the plating is rough metal. That means no concessions are made to the design to protect the eyes or protect wearers…
