My Annealed Best Knife Blades

After reading the reviews I decided to take a chance and bought it. It was soft and I had no problem cutting and sanding it.

Pros
  • Inspires Confidence
Cons
  • Long Delivery Time

Definitely not 1095

Made non-magnetic then hardened in Park's 50. The file still scratched her. Annealed and tempered again - same story. It can't be 1095.

Pros
  • Great construction
Cons
  • Many things

Great steel! suitable for knives, parts and accessories

good steel. The edge appeared slightly harder after laser cutting, but the rest of the steel still appeared soft after annealing. Harden hardens easily. Would definitely buy again.

Pros
  • practical article
Cons
  • not all suitable

Sometimes it starts, sometimes not.

I bought a lot of stuff at RMP. The last one I bought wasn't annealed. It is very difficult to cut with the same band saw that I used to cut the same product last time. Just take some time to bake, but I didn't take the time to bake. Not as advertised.

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • Disappear

Works well and heat treated

The first thing I bought was a 1.5 which I used to remove the stock and a few hammer hits to touch up. It seemed to be working fine, but I haven't started submitting. I used an angle grinder. I have a 2x12" bar now and Sgian Dubh in mind. I'll be forging and updating one of these soon after spending some time with this steel on the anvil.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Could have gone for a newer model

Do not buy. Too heavy.

This material is harder than woodpecker lips. The band saw barely left a scratch, so I used a cutting wheel. Drill holes? Better 5 new drills per hole. I'm not sure what this company uses to cut this steel, but it's definitely hardened. Unless you have a grinder and plasma cutter I would stay away from this stuff. Too difficult for an average instrument to work.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • No performance

Unannealed for knives, parts and accessories

I ordered 3 different sets of 3/16 1095 blanks for 2" and 1.5" blanks and none of them were annealed as described. They couldn't be cut on a bandsaw with a new blade, and Nicholson's new files roll over them like they're on ice. This seems to be a recurring problem with this company, particularly their 1095. I can easily run the same annealed 3/16 1095 from Jantz, so it's not my gear. When I pay that much for a few pieces of metal, I expect them to be annealed. The size, consistency andโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Not sure

I like this stuff is good for hand tools

I'm a complete novice in knife making and don't know much about knife making metals yet; I have to admit that some of the negative reviews put me off a bit. I needed a 2 inch wide blank and that was all I could find so I gave it a try. It arrived a day early and seemed perfect for my project. Do you know how nuby is? I got a template and started cutting with my AG. It also cut slower than I used to, but it cut very well. The belt sander for contour smoothing was also slower but not in a hurryโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
