The straps are strong and hold tight even on the bumpiest rides .I love the ease of use and versatility of these tie downs - they work just as well with a kayak as they do with a paddle. Very poor design on the piece of tape between the .

Well they hold the boat but if you are not very careful it can also scratch your boat. Very poor design on the piece of tape that remains between the piece of metal and the boat. As soon as you close the buckle, the strap, which is supposed to protect against scratches, lifts and you can scratch the boat if you're not careful.
