Works well in the wind

I use the Rode VideoMic Go which comes with my Canon 80D Video Creator's Kit. Foam rubber sleeve for the microphone marked "RODE". It doesn't work well upwind so I bought this DeadCat. First I removed the RODE foam sleeve. Then I tried to slide on DeadCat. However, it was a very tight fit. At first it seemed like I couldn't go all the way. A funny (and morbid) name for a must-have gadget!

It hurts a bit to call this windscreen a dead kitten, but it does wonders for improving sound quality in noisy situations. The Rode Dead Kitten is great because it fits perfectly on the recorder (Zoom H4n here) with an elasticated opening that keeps the recorder secure. Unlike the Zoom H4n's foam shield, which seems to keep falling off. Unlike a foam windshield, this actually seems to work. Wind noise is eliminated in almost all circumstances, maybe not in gale force winds, but in a constant…

Pros
  • Minimizes wind noise when recording in strong winds
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
