Pros below: Without additional power. The sound is good. Excellent clip. For off-screen text. Cons: The lace is a bit short. If you are writing an interview, then you need a longer lace.

The microphone itself is of very good quality for the price. However, the Rode Rec app is terrible. Countless times I've stopped recording, only to go into the app and find that it decided to stop recording midway. Sometimes he doesn't upload it to Dropbox/Soundcloud and it becomes a wasted day.

So let me be direct RØDE. I bought a microphone that has all the hallmarks of a real smartLav+, right down to the faux leather case and the company logo engraved on the microphone clip. But because I bought it from Revain, do you give me a one-year guarantee? How many fingers am I holding right now?

The Rode Rec application is not acceptable. First, it costs $6 and has the worst user interface I have ever seen. Once you've recorded an audio file, you have to go through many hurdles to access it. Having to email each audio file is ridiculous and the easiest option. The last update the app received was probably over 5 years ago. It is absolutely impossible to respect a company that cares so much about their instruments, regardless of whether they make good microphones or not.

I have never written such negative reviews but this mic is a waste of money. For this to work you need to download the Rode app. Unfortunately, the app freezes all the time and is so difficult to manage when you're juggling a ton of things on camera. It's advertised as free, but there's not much you can do with the free version. You must purchase the app to use it to its full extent. So until they come up with a better app that's quick and easy to use, I wouldn't buy this mic.

Everything is fine. Definitely better than the built-in microphone. Good if you create "professional" videos with the iPhone. For the price I had imagined a clearer difference. I needed a small microphone that could be used live from the iPhone to Facebook and Periscope, something that would sound much better to the listener than the built in microphone on my iPhone, that did a great job did! I bought this to use on the iPhone 8+ (with 3.5mm Lightning adapter). I tested it as soon as I received it with a mock interview at my office. Native iPhone video compared to Shure MV-88 and Rode SmartLav+ with and without extender.
