Doesn't work with Android Auto

Bought this to put in our van so we can charge our Android or iPhone. I was also planning to use it for Android Auto, but the van won't pick up the device when the cable is used for that purpose. Hence the low rating.

You can't use this for Android Auto or Apple Carplay

I use Android and my wife uses iPhone. The new car we bought only has 1 USB to connect to Android Auto or Apple Carplay. I thought instead of 2 different cables I would have 1 USB-A connected to both Android with USB-C and iPhone Lightning port, but the cable doesn't work for the sake of work. The devices were not recognized.
