Royal Langnickel Small Watercolor Pencil Review

I bought this set to include in my artist raffle fundraiser. It should be perfect to give someone an idea of what watercolor pencils are capable of. Great kit for experimenting with watercolor pencils. I used an R&L kit a few years ago and then gave it to a friend when I was ready for toilet pencils of better quality.

I'm an artist and I like to experiment with different products. I often use watercolor pencils. The box is good, the pens are average to below average. Creaminess is absent, as is miscibility with water. I wouldn't buy them again if it wasn't for a child or a beginner. Derwent, Staedtler are much better. Faber Castel is above average but not as good as Staedler or Derwent. I liked the Crayola watercolor pencils better than these.

I really only bought this for the black pencil and tin. For me it was worth what I paid for it, the rest of the pencils were kind of a bonus. Cheap set, colors not saturated, lightfastness seems poor, fades a bit if left on dash for a week and color matching was pure bullshit. It's really for coloring books, not for creating masterpieces. They "work", color activates well and mixes well mechanically, but neither color "plays well" together so mixes are messy. Poor color selection makes it…
