Rubbermaid Easy Find Lids 7-Cup Square Food Storage Container (Pack of 3) Review

This is my favorite bowl size. The flaw in the package I received is that the top of the container is not smooth. I have to be careful when drinking liquids from a bowl. I only noticed it when I ate cereal and then drank milk. None of my previous bowls had this problem so I didn't know what to look for. I bought them knowing I could never put anything in them that might soil the container.

This was an upgrade for some ZipLoc, Rubbermaid and Glad disposable containers that were finally reaching the end of their useful life - deformed, didn't have an airtight seal, etc. The lids clip onto the bottom of the container so you don't have to fumble for the lid. Part of the Easy-Fit collection in a variety of sizes, they're great for holding a small amount of leftovers for two or one person, and provide multi-day lunchbox portions. It's not a cheap look.

No black vents in lid shown but. The lid comes with ventilation holes! Poorly! I know Rubbermaid makes most food containers with vents, but if you don't want them, be careful! Many storage containers of this type now come with vented lids, what a disappointment! Rubbermaid needs to pull together and update their products and images that now have vented lids! I called Rubbermaid and they told me all the 3, 5, 7 cup lids are easy to find, now they all have a black center vent.

Ordered these for freezer cooking but all the lids that come with them have a hole for the microwave. It is not what is pictured and it is not what I want. I never plan on using them in the microwave and I can tell venting will be a long term wash/dry/dirt build-up issue. They are big and I want them to come with old lids. (By the way, the new lids are made of a different plastic and don't close as securely as the old ones if you had them years ago.)

I like Rubbermaid storage containers because they are inexpensive, can be used in both the microwave and freezer, and last a very long time. I have a few of these 7 cup containers as well as a 14 cup size. I also have at least a dozen smaller 2 and 1.2 cup round screw top containers. I mainly use the 7-pack for leftovers, but also for baking, slicing fruit for smoothies, rice and quinoa. and ice cold soup. They close quite tightly and my food seems to stay in it a little longer. Haven't put tomatoes in yet. So I can't tell if storing or reheating tomatoes will stain the bowl. Everything else I've used food containers for has worked better than any other similar items bought locally or even cheaper online. I plan to buy more of these and also in different sizes. These 7 cup containers are perfect for preparing large meals for the rest of the week and then portioning out leftovers as another reviewer mentioned. Even when cooking for one or two people, you can save a lot of money and time by cooking from stock once a week and refrigerating or freezing the rest.
