This item is too small for adult standard American domestic cats. I didn't look closely at the cat in the product photo. If only I knew that this is a semi-grown kitten and not an adult cat. It's a cardboard scratching post so I didn't buy it for durability reasons. It consists of 3 parts, two of which have the same shape. I glued these two pieces together for my cats. I tuck the corner of the shaft under something strong for my cats to use, otherwise it's too light.

The kittens have scratched the carpet and in a year they are very strong. I don't like carpet, but I don't think my landlord deserves to ruin the carpet because of it. They don't seem very interested in my vertical scrapers so I was hoping they would pick these and they are! The carpet is safe and the kittens are very happy - they can really stick their claws in it and ride it to town.
