Purchased and used, the smell is normal. It seemed to help, but in the end the money was wasted. It didn't seem to help. He ended up cleaning the tank after trying something else from Walmart that worked.

I bought a fifth wheel which has been in dry dock for 4 years and had "torque in the tank". It was 3/4 full even after I emptied my black tank. It took 4 months to use this product and now my black tank is completely empty! Beat all other foods down with your hands.

Poured 1/2 bottle of this into an empty black water tank through the toilet and filled the tank almost full as instructed. I used a hose extension wand to stir/wash the tank by filling it into the toilet through the hose. A few days later I drove 75 miles to a campsite (hopefully throw away well) before draining the tank.
