I guess my hands don't always clap loud enough for the clapper to hear me. I have to get close to it and watch the red lights to see if it heard me. Sometimes I have to clap 5 or 6 times for it to hear all the claps. I have other devices hooked up to the power strip it's connected to, when I unhook them sometimes the light clicks they make activate the clapper. These are nice bulbs so far. They do not get very hot, are quite compact, and instant on. Look very much like a classic clear bulb. The only strange thing is that they operate on an odd frequency, which is not too noticable, but is there. If you swing a pendulum or string you will notice it strobe very slightly. See full review
