I bought them for travel to charge my devices without getting tangled in long cords. I use it with a multi USB charger and it works great.

Because the device only comes with one cable, losing it means you won't be able to load or charge media, rendering the device useless: so it makes sense to have a spare cable. They work well, long enough to conveniently manage the device and enough to have more than one backup. It may not seem like much, but you'll regret not having them.
