This Isn't the Best Gesso in Paint & Primer

This is actually a watery greyish 'white tempera', no gesso. It wasn't until I brought it to my class that I realized this and it was too late to go back because we were using it. Completely transparent.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Communication with seller

Good gesso but much thinner than others

I use a lot of gesso and this works well as a white to mix with other acrylics. However, to cover a canvas with it, you need at least two coats to cover it completely. It's much thinner than the others.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Reliability

This is not a gesso, it is peeling off and is not white.

It turned out to be VERY thin, I needed 6 coats. and it was not white, but, oddly enough, a curious grey-pink. It's ugly as well. falls off after application. A complete waste of energy even for a purchase, not to mention money. I returned it.

Pros
  • Practical thing
Cons
  • Some disadvantages

Great deal on paint and primer

At $19 this is a great deal. Yes you will need 2-3 coats to properly prepare the surface but that is the standard. Oil paints work best when there is more than one coat of primer/lifter. To make painting even easier, add some baking soda to the bottle and shake before each use for extra texture.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Some imperfections

Great price for a primer

When I was learning to paint with oil paints I used them to coat a new canvas. Stroke the stretched canvas with a spatula and brush. The consistency is perfect, no dilution necessary. I will buy more when the gallon runs out. Best value for money I've found and delivery was very fast - 2 days from order!

Pros
  • New
Cons
  • Can't remember

Disappointed with this "plaster "

Might as well buy a gallon of water and save my money. It's not gesso. It's terribly diluted with water. some? Definitely unlike any gesso I've ever used before. I tried mixing it with a better quality cast and it was still terrible. I wish I had read the reviews before buying because I don't have $20 right now and this is going in the bin. Don't waste money. Buy a more expensive cast and save yourself the hassle.

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • Not bad overall, but...

Poor quality, looks watered down

Unfortunately I cannot recommend this patch. It seems very watered down compared to all the brands I've used before, and worst of all, my paintings are peeling. When I draw new layers, the previous layers detach, revealing a white canvas. This has never happened to me and my 3 XL canvas prints that I loved now need a paint over (if I can at all and they aren't completely ruined now).

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Functionality

Like: Foundation

Need Gesso. Bought. Doesn't look like the thick white paste I'm used to. I didn't read the reviews closely enough or I would have known... It pours very quickly and is quite runny. But it runs smoothly and serves its purpose. It takes more layers than I usually put on, but for the price, I get a lot for the price. Experienced artists know that there are hundreds of products, so the buyer should be careful and read reviews before buying. Then evaluate the item based on what it can and should do,

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Thin
