Returned. It is very small and most importantly the glass is so opaque that the "lava" is not visible at all.

I remember when they first became popular in the Middle Ages(!). My family had one and I sat and watched the "lava" rise and fall. hrs. Now, 50 years later, a spontaneous purchase has brought back those old memories. The bubbling "lava" also fascinates me. I watch them, relax and think. I like the soft light this lamp gives. Of course it's not enough for reading, but it fills my small room with a warm light.

My lava lamp came in and I originally bought it for a friend, but I ended up buying her something else, so I decided to keep this lamp for myself. I open the box and add it for the first time and leave it on for about 5 hours hoping it will move like lava lamps usually do. Well this lava lamp is broken because the slime in it won't move and I'm really frustrated because I love lava lamps so you can imagine my frustration when a new $20 lava lamp doesn't work.

I've literally wanted my whole life a lava lamp. I bought this because it was a great price and the rainbow color was beautiful but to be honest it sucks. I read the instructions and followed the advice, and each time a piece of wax stuck to the top. I turn it off and if it's really cool I can knock that part off. Very disappointed. I've wanted a lava lamp for a long time, finally found this one and was very happy to get it but was very disappointed. This thing is CRAZY! The wax doesn't heat up or move around in the lamp like it should, it stays in a clump at the bottom of the lamp even after 12 hours of use. BIG MONEY LOSS! Despite adhering to all standard protocols for use, including room temperature, avoiding drafts, avoiding shaking, operating for no more than 4 hours at a time, and allowing adequate cool down time between uses, this lamp has become a de facto scam.
