It worked great!

Seastar steering cylinder was leaking. Local shops charged several hundred dollars for repairs or replacements. I watched some very good tutorials on youtube and bought a set of sigils and this tool https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A9BL8DM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 hour or so. Works like new and saved me a lot of money.

Pros
  • Cool product
Cons

Save big money and do it yourself.

This is Sue's husband and I rebuilt a Seastar cylinder on my boat in about an hour with a gasket kit. It took about another hour to bleed the system with the steering cylinder kit and a gallon and a half of new fluid. A set of 1/4 in. ID x 5/16 in. diameter, clear PVC vinyl tubing, 10 feet, 3 meters, split in half and placed over the drain nipples and placed in a clean, dry half-gallon milk jug. made it easy .

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Old model

works best in toolboxes

fixed my leak. A little tricky to remove old seals, but probably the best seal removal and replacement solution out there. It's a lot cheaper than taking the boat to the dealer or repair shop. Always reposition the motor when not in use. Water trapped under the seal can damage the shaft if you always store the motor straight. Keep it on the left and then keep going while going the other direction and then straight. just keep changing positions

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • I have no bad feelings everything is fine

BACK TO THE WATER! Buy OEM with no leaks

Tried to save money and installed 2 sets of non-SeaStar tuning gaskets that were leaking. Wasn't too lazy and bought these. The seals are very tight compared to aftermarket junk and don't leak. They are fully depressurized port and starboard as detailed in the kit installation instructions. When turning the wheel to the right and left, non-original seals leaked out. Conclusion: THE BOAT IS BACK TO THE WATER AND FISHING!

  • Brings joy

Real Seastar Real Expensive

Wrench won't win any awards but will work and has the benefit of a recess suitable for a torque wrench. Of course you'll need to do some offset calculations to get the right setting, but several websites will tell you how. New seal and seal so-so. Do yourself a favor, take the old kit to your local hydraulic shop, replace the seals, and pull those new seals and put in new seals every year or so. Should keep you from leaking or breaking

Pros
  • Comfortable to use
Cons
  • Doubtful

Good quality product may also include Marine Steering Bracket Remover

Very good product as described. You will definitely need a PIN key. The instructions were good except that one or both support brackets often freeze and may need another tool to complete the project (Marine Steering Support Bracket Puller). Before purchasing this $77 add-on tool, use a small sledgehammer and block of wood to knock out the support brackets.

Pros
  • Excellent Overall
Cons
  • Repair

Works well - save money with the SeaStar Gasket Kit, HS5157 Wrench

This kit has everything you need and will save you big bucks on repairs. Check out YouTube for a 10 minute review. The main problem is removing the brackets. I used a punch, hammer and some penetrating lube. Don't knock hard. Prefer lots of hard hits and more penetrating oil. The next task is to make sure the pins in the key socket fit snugly into the old gaskets. The tool is square shaped to add a socket wrench for the lever. This works fine for me. The seals fitted well and went smoothly…

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Cord is shorter than other picks

Fiction! well suited for tool kits

fantastic! I'm a DIYer with above average experience working on my own stuff. When P/Steering failed on my boat, I went on a search. After watching numerous YouTube videos and deciding to do it myself, I searched the internet and found Revain to be the best deal. There is no better way to order spare parts! The whole process was painless and my boat's steering system is ready to go! I highly recommend learning b4 by trying it. I looked at a lot of advice on such a gasket installation and air…
