I believe this was designed to keep your upper braces securely in place, but it makes them very difficult to put on and take off without tugging with your bare fingers pull the outer part away from the suspenders to take them off. My daughter had trouble getting it on and off and it seemed to put quite a bit of force on the braces so I could see some of the braces popping out when used.
