Don't buy the SM57 - get this one

Love the look, the sound and the solid construction. I bought this to replace the SM57 that was used on my snare. SM57 was hit with a stick and fell apart. Finding all the pieces and putting them back together doesn't work. So I bought this one mainly for the metal grill. But it's also a much better version of the SM57. Details under the bars are different. The sound is better. I highly recommend it for studio and touring.

Pros
  • Quick change
Cons
  • Vulgarity

Best Microphone for Electric Guitar Recording

Okay, this is my new guitar amp mic. I record at home, I route the microphones through the mixer and then into the audio interface, into the computer. The SM57 is considered the ideal tool for recording guitar amps the way it should be. except this mic sounds TRUE. With no bass clipping and a *mostly* flat EQ (I dropped the highs by about -4dB), I can't tell the sound from my amp from the sound coming out of my headphones. I was very skeptical as many reviews say it's a better all round micโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Comfortable

  • Unreliable

She knows what I like.

I have an old sm57 (like everyone else in the world). She spent most of her life kissing the Fender cab's 60-watt grille, and several times I've lured her down my Taylor's hole. Good performance in both cases. Now please drum roll (probably also with the 57 mic), I have a Beta 57A. It's brighter without the harsh grunt that smaller mics bring. A fuller and rounder "radiance" from acoustic guitars without much boom and coloration. So Beta 57A is my new stable sound? No, I've had a longโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • The cable is shorter than other picks

Beware of buying from sellers other than Revain. There are many fakes.

I bought two and a year later another one. The last purchase was from the seller Camelliam. The microphone broke after 2 years. Upon inspection and comparing it to my other two originals, I found it to be a fake. Telltale signs: - No "non-recyclable" logo on the XLR connector (small bin with a solid line) - The original microphone capsule is printed in white letters. There is a white spot on the fake. The wires that go internally from the XLR connector to the transformer are different colorsโ€ฆ

All round great mic

I bought this mic because of its reputation as a studio and live workhorse. So far I've used it in both contexts and it's worked great. In a live application I've used it as a vocal mic - there seems to be some debate as to which is better - this or the Beta 58 for live vocals and I'd say having used them on stage I like them the 57A because it handles the dirt of most small venues much better. If you're playing in a killer sounding room, I don't know. Ryman it probably won't matter but in aโ€ฆ
