Sigma always wins

I love Sigma products. Unfortunately a criminal broke into the house and stole all my expensive photography equipment but it was a brilliant product and I loved the photos I took with my DSLR until it was stolen.

Pros
  • Not cheap but decent
Cons

Good for studio use

No additional function. Auto - TTL is a bit behind. As mentioned, TTL is disabled when using a cone and you have to choose between low and high power. Good for studio use, manual flash is better in low light outdoors. Shoe wobbles when connected to Sony a65.

Pros
  • Robust construction
Cons
  • For old

Do not buy this unreliable/poor product or you will waste your time.

If I had the choice not to start I would choose this one. This product stopped working after doing about 10-15 shots over 2 months of very very causal use and I had to return it. Didn't expect a Japanese made product to fail so quickly. Also, it only provided adequate illumination at a distance of about 10-15 feet, like a regular flash. Any further distance will underexpose your image, even if the distance is within the magnification range advertised by the product, and I had to MANUALLY…

Pros
  • That seems to be all for now
Cons
  • Protection

Really liked this flash but two of these had to be returned due to communication problems with my Sony SLT-A57 camera. Flash seemed well built, powerful, and profitable. It was even made in Japan instead of China. But the flash lost contact with my camera after about 50 shots or so. I even returned the flash and got a new one, but the new one had the same problem. The problem was that after about 50 shots, the flash would not fire when the camera shutter was released. The flash-ready indicator…

Pros
  • Finally bought
Cons
  • Can be damaged

So far so good with camera and photo

I have a Canon flash for my Canon G11 camera but now I mostly use the Sony A55. When my service club asked me to take some member portraits I knew I would need a new flash for Sony and I settled on this Sigma model. So far it has worked very well for me. I use it as a bounce flash that's aimed up and to the side, reflecting off the white wall and ceiling and producing a nice, well-diffused, directional light. It took me a while to master this technique before realizing that I had to flip open…

  • Good thing

On a Sigma DP2 Merrill with firmware version 1.5

EF-610 DG ST works very well with Sigma DP2 Merrill with the latest firmware update. For me, this niche camera with great image quality was a stop on my photographic journey. In practice, I can only afford one camera at a time. I once suffered from GAS and had an SLR with lots of lenses and accessories. This flash has limitations that I didn't realize until I read the manual. There are only two manual settings, FULL and 1/16. In other words, the button on the back of the flash gives you three…

Pros
  • Nice packaging
Cons
  • Infinitely slow

Transform your photos with this flash!

I had no idea what I was missing until I bought this Sigma Flash. I am using a Sony SLT a57 camera with a built in flash. Every year I am the unofficial photographer for my wife's charity event. The images are normal but a bit dark. The built-in flash was weak and partially cropped by my large lens at the bottom. So I always tried to shoot without flash because I thought I could adjust the ISO, speed and aperture to make the photos bright and clear. But that didn't happen. I was afraid of the…

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • weak
