Silva Ranger Global US Compass Review

I was excited to bring this compass on my next camping trip, but it failed to meet my expectations. Despite its global capabilities, I found it difficult to get an accurate reading. The construction also felt flimsy and I worry it wouldn't last on longer treks.

I use a compass all the time and was looking for a simple, easy and accurate compass. This is exactly what I was looking for. I have a drawer full of useless liquid filled compasses with big bubbles so I decided to upgrade to a non liquid filled compass. Silva Ranger Global was my choice. The needle swings freely and quickly settles down. It's durable, lightweight and fits perfectly in my pocket. Finally, and most importantly, it points north. I trust this compass.

If you need a glow-in-the-dark compass for navigating at night, this might not be it. Three benchmarks on the compass body are well lit but, and this is a big but, the glow from the arrow markings is so minimal as to be almost invisible in the dark.
