I love being in nature. But the sun takes my energy! I took this umbrella on a week long hike in southern Utah. I carried it with my other gear and never got in my way. I could leave it open to create my own shade. I received dozens of comments telling me I was wise to be among them. I've used it through slot canyons and through national parks. Glider broke after a few weeks. UPDATE: Luckily the company sent me a new one for free. Many Thanks. The umbrella opens with a pleasantly springy cotton and fits perfectly in the hand. It's not entirely windproof, but I don't think the screen is protected. Feels very light. The foam handle has a nice grip and the drawcord wraps around [some] wrists. I'm a big fan of walking with an umbrella. I have fair skin and burn easily. I HATE putting on sunscreen all the time, I usually forget and honestly it sweats. Anyway, I've never sunburned this or their previous (8.9 ounce) model and I've had both through open ridge lines in Yosemite, the Utah deserts and the US Everglades in July.
