this was a great addition to my a6400. I use it for vlogging and interviews. This adapter allows me to quickly connect a small microphone and I like the LEFT side better because that's where the microphone jack is.

Bought for Sony A6400 about 2 years ago. I also bought a Deity D3 Pro to work with. I'm so glad I preferred the side mount to the top mount where it blocks the screen when unfolded. I haven't had a single problem with it and have used it for several large projects and many hours. Sony A6400.

Excellent quality but cheap 2.5mm screw not suitable for Allen keys. These are the little things that can ruin the product. I had to search a long time for a 2.5mm head screw of the right length to replace the cheap one that came with the product. You will need a 2.5mm x 5mm cap screw; Black. Otherwise a very high quality cold shoe. This is definitely necessary so that the additional microphone does not block the LCD.

I like the look of the smallrig coldshoe adapter that moves it up but the connecting cable crosses the front of the screen. With the side adapter, the cable lies next to the inputs and the cable just hangs to the side. That's great. I also purchased a Smallrig top mover mount from an online auction seller as a 'buy now' option. It was about $5 cheaper than the Smallrig brand and worked exactly the same. There's probably a side plate too, which you can move if you're interested.

Contrary to the description, you cannot use this cold shoe with a neck strap. Yes, there is a slot for attaching a neck strap, but I spent over 30 minutes trying to get the strap in and out, and the hole was too flimsy, despite my best creative efforts. Even if I could, the screw attaching the shoe to the right front of the camera would have to go into the same rivet used to attach the neck strap loop. This mount is ideal for those who use the camera for any type of video recording and need a connected microphone for audio! You can use the camera strap even with the mount installed.
