Description of Trial Unit of Smooth-Cast 305 Urethane Resin

SMOOTH-ON SMOOTH-CAST 305 - 2 Pint Kit. 30 minute demold time and 7 minute pot life. Cures Slower than Smooth-Cast 300, quick enough for rapid turnaround. Bright White Color, can be sanded and painted. East to use, equal parts a and b. No vacuum degassing required.

Microbubble Issues

I've had bad luck with smooth resin. This material always seems to form tiny bubbles or microbubbles that don't appear when I use other brands/types of resin. Slow or fast curing doesn't seem to matter, I always get little bubbles forming in the molded parts. I don't use a high pressure pan though, this treatment shouldn't be necessary anyway, but using another brand of epoxy in the same condition gives me much better results. Fantastic - highly recommend

Curing time will be shorter than recommended if using the entire test unit or more so be careful. Also pay attention to the temperature, because the warmer the faster it hardens. You don't need to cure this product before you can cast it. This worked great for me, although it left a lot of small bubbles unless you vacuum off the resin first or press down after pouring. I usually like Smooth-On. Not this time. SO MANY BUBBLES.

I am very disappointed with this product. I've been using Smooth-On products for years and have NEVER experienced *MANY BUBBLES*. I don't want to sound too dramatic, but I'm VERY VERY unhappy. There is currently a shortage of urethane so instead of reaching out to the great folks at Reynolds Advanced Materials here at ATL I had to order from Revain. BIG. ERROR. I do not know what happened; Smooth-On is usually the highest quality brand! I have pre-orders to fill ASAP and this resin is bullshit…
