I have a couple of masks that I prefer to hand wash so I don't have to run the washing machine as often and whatnot. that the masks do not wear out so quickly. I also save myself the hassle of ironing. Soaking is great for hand washing masks. It eliminates the smell of "rebreath" leaving a light fresh scent in its place. I've been recovering from surgery and there are only certain underwear I can wear and I don't have much of them , them, so I have to wash them often.
