Does the job: portable audio and video

I bought this recorder to use for my lectures at school. I am in a program that is evolving very quickly and in 6 weeks it will take a lot of study to learn that much. This recorder does its job quite well and lasts quite a long time on one set of batteries, which is good because I'm forgetful enough to remember to change them often. However, it doesn't have many lectures on it, which is a shame and I ended up having to delete some of them when trying to record the current lecture in class, but

Best voice recorder I've ever used

I bought this voice recorder 2 years ago and found it excellent with a few minor issues. It's very well designed - issues I've had with previous Sony voice recorders have been eliminated or fixed in this one. It's easy to use, has good battery life, and allows me to copy recorded notes directly to my computer in .wav format. Then I convert them to mp3 at 40 kbps to save space. Some issues: It would be useful to have an on-demand LED to show the time etc in the dark. The microSD slot cover is…

Great little device

This is really a very good device. Yeah, at around $50 or so it doesn't feel like much in terms of tactile feel. But I bought it for its supposed ease of use, sound quality, and useful features. It delivered in all aspects. We use the device to record our son's school activities. He has quite severe ADHD, he never writes down his homework, has difficulty remembering what he did in class etc. So this voice recorder helps us to guide him every day in school and also to do homework. We found the…

You get what you pay for!

Before I get to the review part I want to say something. This thing is as strong as vibranium :p . He fell twice from 4 feet and survived with only a few scratches. Now about the reason for the fall. It's so tiny and slippery and has no handles. So if you plan to get your hands on it, you need to be a little careful. Pros: * The quality of the stereo microphone on the top is good. * All control buttons are easily accessible. * Organizing recorded files into separate folders allows you to easily

Not an easy decision but I'm happy with this choice

In December 2015 I bought a better Philips voice recorder to record college lectures and take voice notes. It was only used a couple of times and then installed for a while as I was taking classes that didn't allow recording. Lastly, I pulled it from sleep mode and found that the device stopped working. How was that possible? The device has been safely removed! I promised not to buy another Philips and looked at both Olympus and Sony. In my case, Sony has conquered the smaller size. As a…

Keeps people honest

I bought this voice recorder to record calls from collection agencies. My insurance company takes a long time to pay my medical bills and sometimes requests additional information from my doctor and this process can delay payment, sometimes by months. But the medical insurance company does not wait months for the payment and quickly hands over the bills to their debt collection service. Every time these collectors call they let me know I'm on a record. Of course I can hang up, but then I can't…

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • No instructions

This is amazing. I've owned MANY digital recorders, starting with the Sony MiniDisk recorders, then the excellent Edirol model (which still works great) and two different models of Zoom recorders. So they are ALL on a higher level than this Sony ICD-PX440 model. But they are also much more difficult. My other current device is the Zoom H1. There's no question that it's more premium and premium (in terms of what it produces) than this non-upmarket Sony model that costs a lot less. But since I…
